At Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, we observe the Lenten season. It is a way of preparing our hearts for the celebration of the birth of the Messiah. There are four Sunday services that help us prepare for Christmas. Then, of course, we enjoy Christmas as a special time of worship and fellowship. But that service doesn’t close out the season. The next service is simply identified as the First Sunday after Christmas. That’s not very profound, but it does describe it for what it is. Epiphany is the final week of the season. This service is when we celebrate the coming of the Magi to worship the newborn prince of Israel. The link to the messages are the titles that in bold and italic font below.
On the 1st Sunday of Advent in the message “From Captivity to Christ,” we spend our time looking at Jeremiah 33:14-16, looking at the Jews who are in exile, longing for a Savior to come to deliver them.
For the 2nd Sunday of Advent, the message is shared with us by a friend of our fellowship – Caleb Hostetter. Take a listen to his message about The Branch.
The 3rd Sunday of Advent features the words of Zephaniah. In the third chapter of that prophetic book, the author speaks of the Acquitted, speaks of the coming Messiah and His work of redemption.
The 4th and final Sunday of Advent’s message is entitled O Bethlehem. I am confident that you will be able to surmise what we will be talking about from Micah 5:2-5.
This is that in-between week. Christmas has come and gone, but the story of Christmas continues. Isaiah 62:6-12 takes us on an interesting journey from the walls of Jerusalem to the Temple itself. We will hear about the Watchmen on the Walls.
This is the last of our Christmas services. Epiphany celebrates the visit of The Magi. Our text is Matthew 2:1-12.
